Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik are right now in judicial custody. Their bail pleas were rejected on Wednesday. Now, they have approached the special court under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to seek bail. Right now, the brother-sister duo along with Samuel Miranda, Dipesh Sawant, Zaid Vilatra and Abdul Basit Parihar are in judicial custody. They have all been arrested for allegedly peddling drugs. The NCB has sought their custody till September 23, 2020. In her bail plea, Rhea Chakraborty has said that she has been falsely implicated in the case. It claims that she was, “was coerced into making self-incriminatory confessions and by her application on September 8 the applicant has formally retracted all such incriminatory confessions”.
The NCB formally arrested Rhea Chakraborty on Tuesday. She had been grilled for three days at a trot. It seems no female officer was present during her interrogation. This is something that has been raised in the bail plea. It reads, “There was not a single lady officer who interrogated the present applicant as mandated by law. The Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of Sheela Barse VS State Maharashtra, has held that the interrogation of females should be carried out only in the presence of a female police officer/constable.”
The drug chats found on Rhea Chakraborty’s phones start from 2017. Sources suggest it is about marijuana and some synthetic narcotics. Showik and Rhea Chakraborty have been booked under Section 27A of the NDPS Act that is about financing narcotics. The chats have details of the payments. If found guilty, offenders can get upto ten years in prison, along with a fine of Rs two lakh. In the leaked chats, they are discussing the purchase of weed for late Sushant Singh Rajput.
