Orlando Bloom, famous for his roles in blockbuster Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy and the Pirates of the Caribbean films and Kingdom of Heaven, has been away from big-budget fare for quite some time now, and is next film, too, looks to be a low-key affair. That being said, smaller films, too, can be just as engaging, which is what Retaliation certainly looks like. Centred on the topic of paedophilia within the Catholic Church; Orlando plays a man apparently torn between the trauma of childhood sexual abuse and his religious devotion, and how it leads him on a path of revenge. The imagery and symbolism used by brother-Director duo, Ludwig Shammasian and Paul Shammasian, as also the atmospheric camerawork by Felix Wiedemann succeed in creating a chilling milieu, giving the film the look and feel of an eerie psychological horror.
BL Verdict: Retaliation had seen a limited release under the title, Roman, three years ago, and we’re glad this Orlando Bloom starrer, which looks like a small-budget gem, is getting a wide release.
