Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha featuring Farhan Akhtar in the titular role was one of the biggest hits of 2013. Apart from emerging a box office winner by earning over Rs 100 crore, the biographical sports also earned many accolades including Filmfare Best Actor Award for Farhan Akhtar. While we can’t imagine any other actor as athlete Milkha Singh, you will be surprised to know that Khiladi Akshay Kumar was the first choice for the film. In fact, legendary sprinter himself wanted Akshay to play his character on the silver but later confessed that Farhan turned out to his best choice.
He told a leading daily, “For the longest time, I felt that Akshay was correct for my role. But during my initial interaction with Farhan, I realised that he was the best man. I discovered that he has the same determination and grit as me. Now, I can confidently say Farhan is the best choice.” He further added, “He is exactly how I wanted to see myself on screen. He has replicated me on screen. He even resembles me.” Well, we certainly agree with legendary Milkha Singh and can definitely say that no one could have played the role of former sprinter better than Farhan Akhtar.
Interestingly, Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Mehra have collaborated again for Toofan, where the actor is portraying the character of a boxer. The sports drama also features veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who will be seen as Farhan’s coach along with Mrunal Thakur in pivotal roles. The film, which is written by Anjum Rajabali, was scheduled to hit the screens on September 18 but has got delayed due to the global crisis of Coronavirus. So, are you excited for this venture?
