As a part of the ongoing investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case, the police have decided to send the cloth used by the actor to hang himself to a forensic lab for a ‘tensile strength’ test. The test results will be used to analyse if the cloth could have born the actor’s weight for the duration of his hanging. If not, the police may explore avenues of foul play. For the uninitiated, tensile strength is the optimum load a material (usually a piece of fabric, plastic or rubber) can support sans fracture upon being stretched.
Shedding light on how the investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide is progressing, a police official said, “Besides the viscera from the actor’s body, the police also sent the gown for chemical and forensic analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in suburban Kalina (Mumbai). It will take at least three more days to get the final forensic report. To ascertain the exact cause of death, forensic experts will check the pattern of ligature marks around the actor’s neck and also determine the strength of the gown with the help of ‘tensile strength’ analysis. The tensile strength test will technically establish whether the cloth can bear around 80 kg, the weight of the actor. The test will help determine if there was any foul play.”
Revealing how the test will be conducted, the official added, “Usually, it takes eight to ten working days to get report from the FSL in regular cases. But since this case is sensitive, experts are taking more precautions to avoid any kind of error in their analysis.”
The police have so far recorded 29 people’s statements as part of their investigation in Sushant’s suicide, including those of the actor’s family members, rumoured girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, casting director and his Dil Bechara Director, Mukesh Chhabra, YRF casting director Shanoo Sharma, his Dil Bechara costar, Sanjana Sanghi, and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
