Yash Raj Films head honcho Aditya Chopra recently recorded his statement in the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case to Mumbai Police, where he has refuted Director Shekhar Kapur’s claims that the actor was depressed due to Paani being shelved, revealing firstly that YRF had to withdraw from the movie despite investing Rs. 5-6 crore because of creative differences with Shekhar, and that there were no hard feeling when the production house and Sushant had parted ways. Adi also shed light on the rumours going around that the actor was forced to forgo Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani due to his contract with YRF.
Speaking to ABP News after being interrogated by Mumbai Police for almost five hours, Aditya Chopra said “YRF decided to cast Sushant in ‘Paani’. Shekhar Kapur gave his approval after YRF convinced him. We invested Rs 5-6 crore in ‘Paani’. The film got shelved due to creative differences. Sushant was later released from the contract. There were no hard feelings.”
On the topic of Sushant Singh Rajput having to decline lucrative film offers like that of Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani due to Yash Raj Films’ stipulations, Adi said, “YRF signed a contract with Sushant during November-December 2013 while Sanjay Leela Bhansali signed Ranveer Singh for ‘Ramleela’ in April 2013. Ranveer was offered Ramleela even before SSR signed contract with YRF. So there is no question of Sushant losing the film because of his contract with YRF. Sanjay Leela Bhansali didn’t approach YRF for Bajirao Mastani. Sushant also didn’t inform us about ‘Bajirao Mastani’. He didn’t tell us that he was offered the movie or he wished to do it. If we allowed him to do MS Dhoni: The Untold Story while he was in a contract with YRF, why would we stop him for Bajirao Mastani? I and my team always promoted Sushant.”
Wel,, Aditya Chopra does raise some pertinent points, doesn’t he?
