We had recently conducted our #BLBestOf6 polls to check out who among the best performers and films of 2020 so far were the absolutely fan-favourites. And among the many films and actors to be nominated, one movie and performance truly trumped all else. We’re talking about Kangana Ranaut, whose act in Panga not only drew 94% of the votes, trouncing the likes of Taapsee Pannu and Deepika Padukone, but the film also trumped over the likes of other box-office smashes like Tanjahi: The Unsung Warrior and Malang as well as critical darlings like Thappad and Kaamyaab to bag 70% of the votes.
Elated at the response to both the film and her performance, Kangana Ranaut exclusively told BollywoodLife, “Heartening to see the love for Panga; Ashwiny (Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari) will be elated. Will share the news with her.”
It was truly a 1-horse race when it came to Best Actress in the First Half of 2020, with Deepika Padukone (Chhapaak) and Taapsee Pannu (Thappad) miles behind with merely 3% votes each while Alaya F, Radhika Madan and Disha Patani didn’t secure a single vote for their performances in Jawaani Jaaneman, Angrezi Medium and Malang. Coming to the film nominees, it was again 1-sided with Tanhaji at a very distant second with 11% of the votes, followed by Thappad and Malang at third and fourth with 8% and 6% votes. Kaamyaab and Gulabo Sitabo, with the latter choosing the OTT route, languished at the bottom with 3% and 2% of the votes.
Panga may not worked at the box office, but certainly seems to have struck a chord with the audience once it made its way to digital and satellite platforms. So, do you agree with Panga and Kangana Ranaut’s rousing triumphs. Tweet and let us know @bollywood_life .
