After Richa Chadha, Anurag Kashyap questions Bollywood studios not paying artists royalty; says, ‘For them, Gangs Of Wasseypur is still a flop’

Breaking News

Filmmaker Anurag Kashypap has come out in support of Richa Chadha after she revealed in her latest blog post that she was paid Rs. 2.5 lakh for both the Gangs of Wasseypur movies —considerably lesser than what one would’ve thought the lead actress of a film from a major production house would’ve paid — which she had willing accepted in the hope of receiving intellectual royalty rights after the film went on to achieve cult-classic status, being widely watched on several online platforms, but is yet to get a penny. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Anurag Kashyap wrote: “She is right. Most actors and crew got paid similar amounts or less and I had to forfeit my entire fees to make Gangs Of Wasseypur. Funny thing is we still own 50% IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) on Gangs Of Wasseypurand we have never seen a penny on it or know about its income. For the studio, it’s still a flop.” Also Read – Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on digital platforms; says, ‘In today’s time, OTT it’s the only way people are able to watch films’

Questioning the veracity of the studio’s claims of the film not having made money, Kashyap tweeted again: “Despite the film being seen the world over and playing on various OTT platform, according to them they haven’t made any money on a film that was made under Rs 18 Crore. And then they actually, once few years back asked me to make a part 3.” In another tweet, he wrote: “Anyways, that’s how most studios work here. The only studio that has consistently send us reports on the business of the films is/was UTV.” Also Read – When Nawazuddin Siddiqui REVEALED he had a one night stand with a waitress in New York City
